To answer that question, researchers publishing the BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders scoured the existing medical literature on treatments for teenagers with back pain. The study authors were particularly interested in examining and comparing the effects of conservative methods including phyisotherapy, manual therapy (which included chiropractic care), education, and exercise treatments.
Out of the 221 adolescents and eight studies included in the review, the researchers found that a combination of exercise and manual therapy offered the best benefits in terms of improvements in pain, flexibility, disability, endurance, and mental health.
Other research that specifically studied chiropractic adjustments has found repeatedly that chiropractors can offer safe relief of back pain in pediatric patients. In a study of children with back pain between the ages of 4 and 18 years, 87% of patients reported “important” improvements in back pain after receiving chiropractic care.
