DOT Consortium Random Testing Cost
The concept of the consortium is really pretty ingenious and it is a great way to keep your company in compliance with DOT laws.
At Chipley Chiropractic, Dr. Chipley has partnered with Team CME for a national consortium program that is very reasonably priced. All you have to do do become compliant is have all of your DOT CDL Employees tested once to enter the program. The cost for the initial DOT Drug Test is $60 per Employee that you want signed up. (Only Employees in Safety Sensitive Positions like Drivers need to be tested). Then a list of these employees is created and a small management fee is paid yearly. That is all there is to it. You designate an Employee to represent your company and that is the person who will be contacted if one of your employees is selected. If an employee is selected to be tested we will contact you (or your designated employee) and we will fax them notice. You or your designated employee then have up to 2 weeks to send the employee in for the drug or alcohol test. You cannot give the selected employee more then 24 hours notice of the test. So the function of a consortium is to very cost effectively allow your company to be in full compliance with the DOT random selection process for Drug and Alcohol testing. We have signed up a number of local / regional businesses in southern WV into our consortium DOT Random Pool service. Essentially, Chipley Chiropractic is acting as an agent for a national consortium, Team CME. They actually administer the program and at last count they were around 100,000 drivers in the program. It is very affordable over the long term and it brings small businesses into compliance with the DOT. The DOT says small owner operated businesses cannot effectively perform random drug testing and therefore they must use an independent third party to choose the randomly selected employee. There is a One time $50 set up cost. There is an annual fee of $100 a year for up to 9 Safety Sensitive employees (Drivers). The annual Fee is due in January of every year and it is prorated if your company joins later in the year. Each employee including the owner/ operator (If a Driver) must undergo a DOT Drug test to enter the consortium. Those are $60 for the lab work and DOT Medical Review Officer and paper work. Then, if any of your employees are randomly selected it is $60 when they come in for the test in the future.
