DOT Consortium for Corporate Random Testing
50% of all DOT CDL License Holders are mandated to be randomly tested every year. The reality is that you must have a large enough pool of employee's and you must have a paper trail of the process to randomly select who is to be tested. If you are a small company this can be very hard. If you are an Owner-Operator, you MUST have someone else to select random screening since you cannot randomly select yourself.
Even if you are a small business with 2 DOT CDL Employee's, it takes an awful lot of work to properly run a random drug testing program. And don't forget, 10% of those with a CDL are mandated to be randomly tested for alcohol.
To solve the difficulties in random testing, the DOT created a system of Consortium's. What that means is that a Government Certified Company registers your employees and creates a random pool of DOT CDL Employees. So, instead of you trying to random test yourself or a business with 2 or 3 CDL employees trying to properly set up testing, your employees are literally added with thousands of others. Then 50% of the whole group is randomly selected. This means as part of the group, you may go years without being selected or you may be unlucky and selected year after year.
The concept of the consortium is really pretty ingenious and it is a great way to keep your company in compliance with DOT laws.
At Chipley Chiropractic, Dr. Chipley has partnered with Team CME for a national consortium program that is very reasonably priced.
All you have to do do become compliant is have all of your DOT CDL Employees tested once to enter the program. Then a list of these employees is created and a small management fee is paid yearly. That is all there is to it. You designate an Employee to represent your company and that is the person who will be contacted if one of your employees is selected.
If an employee is selected to be tested we will contact you (or your designated employee) and we will fax them notice. You or your designated employee then have up to 2 weeks to send the employee in for the drug or alcohol test. You cannot give the selected employee more then 24 hours notice of the test.
So the function of a consortium is to very cost effectively allow your company to be in full compliance with the DOT random selection process for Drug and Alcohol testing.
We can set your company up with a corporate account for our consortium program so that we can invoice you only when services are provided. We can set it up with a credit card on file or we will invoice all approved companies as long as payment is made in 30 days. This means that you don't have to worry about your employees paying when they come thru the door.
We set up corporate accounts for many businesses. Company's who have set up corporate accounts have done so for the following reasons:
1. For Consortium Random Testing Programs.
2. For Convenience of having employees enter our office for DOT CDL Fitness Exams.
3. For Convenience of sending employees in to our office for Pre-Employment Functional testing or drug and alcohol testing.
4. For management of a Drug Free Workplace Program with Pre-Employment Drug Testing and Random Post-Employment Testing.
